Abu Dhabi Police Band Attracts Audience in the Red Square in Moscow

ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates - Wednesday, September 4th 2013
The Abu Dhabi Police Band of the Abu Dhabi Police General Headquarters attracted an audience of thousands in Moscow during its daily show that will continue until the 8th of September. The participation of the band coincides with the Golden Jubilee Celebrations to mark its establishment in July 1963.
The band presented a number of UAE national and traditional orchestras performing during the events of the International Military Music Festival "Spasskaya Tower” being held in the Russian capital city, Moscow. The various musical performances received the admiration of the audience, and included national musical pieces such as Sir Bu Sultan and May Peace Be Upon Khalifa (Ala Khalifa Al Salam), besides highlighting the UAE’s heritage in the songs Al Aialah and Al Bawab among others.
The ceremony was attended by a number of senior officials from the Russian federal government including the Inspector General of Police, Lt. Gen. Sergei Klebnikov.
The Abu Dhabi Police General Headquarters delegation, which was headed by Lieutenant Colonel Saeed Al Khajah, Deputy Director of Tactical Affairs and Security Media Department at the General Secretariat of the Office of H.H Deputy Prime Minister & Minister of Interior, and the police music band participated in the festival that witnessed the participation of 13 states.
Lt. Colonel Al Khajah said that the participation is in line with the Abu Dhabi Police General Headquarters commitment to be present locally and globally, and interact with people and friends to introduce the UAE’s heritage to them.
He stressed that the celebrations of the Abu Dhabi Police Band demonstrate the commitment of the Abu Dhabi Police to document important events during its journey that exceeds 50 years, and to promote its principles that call for taking pride in the police and strengthening loyalty and belonging among all police staff.
He explained that the importance of participating in external musical shows is derived from the ambition to promote the name of the Abu Dhabi Police in international forums, and introduce the members of the band to other international bands through co-performing.
He said that the band has succeeded in performing high quality pieces, and introduced its skills and abilities in a way that attracted the audience. He continued, "This affirms the significant steps we have made in this field especially in that music is a global language crossing borders with no need for passports or tickets.”
"Celebrating such achievements in the history of Abu Dhabi Police sets a tradition among the staff that sincere efforts are not forgotten. Police music initiatives continue to familiarize the public with the role of the police band and its national contributions. It highlights its beginnings and the stages of its development during the past five decades,” he stated.
For his part, Major Ibrahim Al Hosani, Chief of the Abu Dhabi Police Music Band section, said that the participation of the UAE, represented by the police band, in the International Military Music Festival "Spasskaya Tower” in Moscow was characterized by new musical pieces that were enjoyed by the Russian audience who asked the band for more performances. He explained, "Musical pieces and traditional themes were presented daily in special outstanding performances for two and a half hours during the evening period from 8:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.”
He added: "The Abu Dhabi Police would like to avail this opportunity to further engage with the community through a wide range of live performances directed to audiences of all ages at shopping malls, schools and other gathering areas. These pieces have been performed in many locations around the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, where everyone had been invited to attend the shows and enjoy them.”
Notably, in addition to its participation in police trainings, the band contributes in connecting the police with the public in celebrations and national events. It witnessed an important stage of development in the attention paid to its staff and instruments it uses. Besides drums and keyboards, a number of string instruments such as violin and cello were added. Other instruments such as clarinets, cornets (also known as a trombone) and saxophones were added as well.
