2,522 Trainees Graduate in 3 Years

ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates - Sunday, July 5th 2015 [ME NewsWire]

The Training Institute at the Punitive and Correctional Establishments at the Abu Dhabi Police, an institute known for its knowledge and ability to enrich the expertise and skills of its personnel, has graduated 2,522 trainees from various general and specialized courses since its inception three years ago. Such efforts have been made within a modern security framework, amounting to outstanding performance standards; and in a bid to witness a quantum leap in the methods of treatment for inmates and in the means to provide care and services for the various segments of inmates.

Brigadier Mohammed Saif Al Zaabi, Head of the Punitive and Correctional Establishments Department at Abu Dhabi Police, noted that the institute, following its inception on 1 June 2012, created a quantum leap in the methods of treatment for inmates and in the means to provide care and services for the various segments of inmates.

He pointed out that the first building block of the institute was laid three years ago, which required tremendous time, effort, and hard work. “Such efforts have supported this monumental training institute in achieving the desired results of qualifying highly trained police staff members in handling various types of inmates in accordance with the highest modern and advanced international standards,” he said.

Specialized Programs

“The Training Institute has a number of strategic goals, which all lead to optimizing the utilization of the human resources at the Punitive and Correctional Establishments after developing their skills and competencies,” said Brigadier Mohammed Saif Al Zaabi. “This is made possible through highly specialized courses for all those who deal with criminals including officers, non-commissioned officers, civilians or technicians. The successful training course is based on achieving the integration between theory and application, enabling the trainees to go on field visits to the buildings and yards of the punitive establishments.”

Brigadier Al Zaabi stressed that the training institute shares an active role in the success of the specialized training initiative dealing with convicts and detainees, and works towards continuously applying this initiative. He said that the management of the institute have contributed and influenced the courses through the application of the initiative, and have follow-up and communicated with the sections and support associates to encourage the staff.  The management also worked on reassigning the staff in order not to disturb the workflow and tasks of the sections, and additionally worked on the developments and improvements to course content based on the results of the evaluation and questionnaires for each session.

Modern Visions

Colonel Saad Mohamed Saad, Director of the Training Institute at the Punitive and Correctional Establishments at the Abu Dhabi Police, said that the institute specialized in providing diverse training services, with contemporary visions and sophisticated scientific methods. “This will help hone the skills of the staff and provide them with the theoretical knowledge and practical applications to promote and develop their competencies in their field,” he said.

He added that the inception of the Training Institute at the Punitive and Correctional Establishments at the Abu Dhabi Police was an affirmation to the attention given by the police leadership to elevating the skills and competencies of the staff of the Punitive and Correctional Establishments. He noted that the institute, despite being so young, was able to include a number of internal and external partners in its activities such as the Training Department; Anti-Narcotics Section, Special Tasks Department; Clubs Department; and other various leading training institutions in the UAE.

Captain Abdul Jalil Ismail, Deputy Director of the Training Institute at the Punitive and Correctional Establishments at the Abu Dhabi Police, noted that at least 70 percent of the staff of the Establishments now have outstanding correctional skills and knowledge, as the success of the course is measured by its results. He explained that the institute was to graduate more than 870 trainees from basic courses and 207 trainees from advanced courses in just three years; bringing the total of trainees graduating only from specialized courses to 1,077 trainees. In three years’ time, a total number of 2,522 trainees have graduated from all courses.
