Abu Dhabi Residency Implements ‘Share My Knowledge’ Initiative

ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates - Thursday, November 6th 2014 [ME NewsWire]

The Directorate General of Residency and Foreigners Affairs in Abu Dhabi implemented the “Share My Knowledge” initiative, which was launched by the Acting Assistant Undersecretary of the Ministry of Interior for Naturalization, Residency and Ports Affairs. As part of the initiative, Colonel Salim Ali Al Qattam Al Zaabi, Director General of Residency and Foreigners Affairs in Abu Dhabi delivered a lecture at the Emirates Institute of Naturalization, Residency and Ports. During his speech, he confirmed the vital importance of strategic thinking and its relation with excellence and quality. He also gave an overview of the strategic planning concept, the proper strategic planning methodology, objectives, mechanisms and the appropriate measuring tool to assess the impact of its implementation.

Moreover, Colonel Al Zaabi pointed out the importance of strategic planning in any institution as an approach to predict and to prepare for the future; based on an analysis of both the present and future expectations in order to determine the appropriate goals and methods to achieve them efficiently and effectively, in accordance with the priorities of a given timetable.

Furthermore, Colonel Al Zaabi underscored the importance of planning in ensuring a clear vision and mission, determining goals, the optimal use of resources and capabilities, achieving integration in coordination, identifying priorities commensurate with the needs,  controlling implementation-related problems, reducing anticipated risks, and achieving optimal results.

Colonel Al Zaabi also shed the light on the difference between traditional planning and strategic planning. “Traditional planning is merely a reaction to events during which the decision making is an individual process; evaluation is carried out at year-end. In contrast, strategic planning has current, future and exceptional objectives. It involves an assessment of both the internal and external situations, where decisions are taken collectively and the assessment process undergoes continuous follow-up,” he continued.

“The methodology is designed to turn the different stages of planning into an institutional process aimed at preparing plans that reflect the internal and external situations and meet the needs and requirements of external customers. The methodology also guarantees the follow-up on the implementation process, as well as continuous development and modernization based on the optimal use of the available resources in order to achieve the MoI’s vision and implement its mission,” added Colonel Al Zaabi.

The Director General of Residency and Foreigners Affairs in Abu Dhabi presented an overview of his experience in the area of strategic planning during his work at a number of police work sites. At the end of the lecture, he answered the questions and queries of the attendees.

The lecture was attended by Colonel Yusuf Ismail Al Khouri, Deputy Director General of Residency and Foreigners Affairs in Abu Dhabi; heads of departments and chiefs of sections; as well as a number of officers and staff members from the Directorate General of Residency and Foreigners Affairs.
