Al Rumaithi Hails Higher Leadership’s Support to Keep abreast of Global Developments

Pan Medical Conference on “Women's Health” Kicks off in Abu Dhabi

Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates - Thursday, October 16th 2014 [ME NewsWire]

Major General Mohammed Khalfan Matar Al Rumaithi, Deputy Commander-in-Chief of Abu Dhabi Police, inaugurated the Pan Medical Conference “Women’s Health”, for the promotion and enhancement of women's health at the Rosewood Hotel in Abu Dhabi; with a broad participation by more than 600 local and international doctors.

In his address on the occasion, Major General Al Rumaithi welcomed the attendees and participants. He also praised the higher leadership’s keenness to constantly support sciences and scientific research, and to keep pace with global developments in this area. “This conference enjoys the full support and attention from Lt. General H.H Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, due to its content and themes, which draw on global expertise and experiences; focusing on improving public health in general and the provision of optimum healthcare for women,” he pointed out.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by Major General Khalil Dawood Badran, Director General of Finance and Services; Major General Ahmed Nasser Al Raisi, Director General of  Central Operations at Abu Dhabi Police; along with  a number of senior officers, doctors and specialists.

It is worth mentioning that a panel discussion between journalists and a number of doctors was held on the sidelines of the conference, during which the attending doctors answered all queries related  to women's health and diseases that will be tackled throughout the comprehensive three-day conference, including diabetes, hypertension, obesity, fertility, breast and cervical cancer and others.

For his part, Colonel Jassim Al Tunaiji, Head of the Medical Services Department at the Abu Dhabi Police, underscored the importance of this conference, which is held for the first time in the Gulf and the Middle East Regions. “This year’s conference builds on the success of the past conferences held under the auspices of the Abu Dhabi Police GHQ and the supervision of the Medical Services Department,” he indicated. Moreover, he hailed the unwavering support and attention dedicated by the police leadership to position the Medical Services Department at the forefront of progress in the healthcare sector that will help provide the best possible care for patients.

Lt. Colonel Dr. Najla Asaad Taher, Chair of the Conference and Dermatology Specialist at the Medical Services Department of Abu Dhabi Police, welcomed the attendees on behalf of the Organizing and Scientific Committees. Dr. Taher noted that the woman is an important pillar of society and an important asset in the medical sector. Moreover, she underscored that the program aims to address important women health issues and relevant medical therapeutics and technology related to diabetes, cancers and mental health, which pose a significant risk and is the key cause of death among women, regardless of the economic situation of countries.

Conference Themes

Within the multiple activities organized at the conference, Dr. Omniat Al Hajeri, Director of the Public Health Department at the Health Authority-Abu Dhabi (HAAD), submitted a work paper on obesity and diabetes and their association with certain diseases. For his part, Dr. Jala Asaad Taher, Head of Non-communicable Diseases at HAAD, tackled the Cancer Epidemiology. Dr. Rasha Abbas, Consultant Psychiatric at the American Center for Psychiatry and Neurology in Abu Dhabi presented a paper titled, “Mental Disorders in Women across the life Cycle”. Prof. Muhieddine Seoud, from the American University of Beirut (AUB), Lebanon, submitted a work paper titled “Screening for Cervical Cancer in the post HPV Vaccination Era”. Dr. Mahmoud M Benbarka, Consultant Endocrinologist, tackled selected topics about diabetes. The first day session tackled the latest developments in the treatment of heart diseases, chronic blood pressure, obstetrics and Gynecology, fertility problems and pre- pregnancy problems. It is worth mentioning that a workshop was organized during the conference, shedding the light on the future of endoscopic surgery, as well as the new options in the treatment of skin problems (hyper pigmentation); wrinkles and the latest facial rejuvenation techniques.
