GCAA Calls for Practicing Flying Hobby in Accredited Clubs

ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates - Saturday, February 6th 2016 [ME NewsWire]

The General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) called upon light air sports enthusiasts to practice their hobbies in designated clubs accredited by the authority in order to maintain their security and safety. The call falls within the framework of the campaign organized by the authority to raise awareness about light air sports. The campaign was launched in cooperation with the Air Support Department at the Directorate General of Security Support at the General Secretariat of the Office of H.H Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, and continues for two weeks during February.

H.E Saif Mohammed Al Suwaidi, Director General of GCAA, noted that light air sports are a relatively new hobby. “It is not merely a flying game, but a sport that requires mental focus and accuracy to enable users to harmonize mental commands and hand movements to fly their drone,” he added. He called upon those who wish to practice this bobby, to undergo training and practice programs; to go through the basic stages of learning and develop control and command skills.

He also noted that the GCAA has issued a number of regulations and laws related to light air sports. The authority has also issued guidelines for using light air sports aircrafts, notably the need to practice the sport in clubs accredited by the authority, to avoid buying or importing light aircrafts except through accredited clubs, and to inspect the aircraft before flying by accredited technicians. He also stressed the importance of informing the GCAA and the club’s administration should the owner wish to sell the aircraft, and to report any accidents.

He also warned light air sports enthusiast against equipping their aircrafts with laser devices, cameras, or projection devices in order to maintain their safety and security, and avoid violating other people’s privacy. He also called upon light air sports enthusiasts to avoid violating the related laws and regulations.
