On the sidelines of the 10th International Police Best Practice Symposium

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, took part in a brainstorming meeting organized by Dubai Police under the theme “A Safe World is a Stable World”. The meeting, which was attended by Lt. General HH Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, is held along the sidelines of the 10th International Police Best Practice Symposium, at the Armani Hotel, Burj Khalifa.
His Highness, UAE vice President, reviewed the compiled experiences of an elite group of knowledgeable international and local police chief officers participating in the meeting. He attended part of the sessions where participants discussed and brainstormed on various issues, and endeavored to propose appropriate solutions to current issues.
In his address at the meeting, Lt. General HH Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan said: “The meeting represents the perfect opportunity for communication and coordination. It allows us to avail of the accumulated experience and skills of all participants who face mutual challenges in the quest to achieve the ultimate goal of security and stability, and build safe and confident communities capable of ensuring a civilized and bright future for their people.”
Sheikh Saif emphasized the vital importance of concerted efforts in the fight against transnational crimes, which have risen to unprecedented levels due to the proliferation of information and communication technologies. “The widespread adoption and use of ICTs has made it easier for criminals to operate and commit illicit crimes, such as money laundering, drug trafficking, and even terrorism, as well as fraud via the internet and social media,” he added.
Organized under the patronage of HH Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, the brainstorming meeting for police entities is held for the first time at the countrywide level. Also attending were Lt. General Saif Abdullah Al Sha’far, Undersecretary at the Ministry of Interior, HE Lt. General Dhahi Khalfan Tamim, Deputy Chairman of the Dubai Police and General Security; Major General Khamis Matar Al Muzainah, Commander General of the Dubai Police; along with police chiefs in the UAE, Assistant Commander of Dubai Police, and a number of officers.
The meeting was chaired by Lt. General HH Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior. Colonel Dr. Ghaith Al Suwaidi, Director of Dubai Police Academy, briefed the attendees on the meeting’s agenda and topics of the sessions, which are attended by international police chiefs from the USA, China, the United Kingdom, Australia, France, Taiwan, Cayman Islands, Italy and the Netherlands.
Following Colonel Al Suwaidi’s address, Lt. General Saif Abdullah Al Sha’far, Undersecretary at the Ministry of Interior chaired a session on “Traffic Congestion and Road Accidents Fatalities”. The session was moderated by Major General Expert Mohammed Saif Al Zafeen, Assistant Commander-in-Chief of the Dubai Police for Operations Affairs.
The brainstorming meeting also tackled the “Security Implications of Social Media”. The session was chaired by HE Lt. General Dhahi Khalfan Tamim, and moderated by Dr. Mansour bin Sheikh, Advisor to Dubai Police. Another session, chaired by Major General Khamis Matar Al Muzainah, Commander-in-Chief of Dubai Police, tackled “the global risks of the drugs scourge”; and was moderated by Colonel Eid bin Thani, Director of the Anti-narcotics General Department in Dubai.
The “Terrorism and Future Challenges” session was chaired by Major General Dr. Nasser Lakhrebani Al Nuaimi, Secretary General of the Office of HH Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, and moderated by Dr. Rashid bin Amer Al Dhafri, Head of the Strategic Planning Department at the General Secretariat of the Office of H.H Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior.
