MoI Organizes a Workshop about the International Association of Chiefs of Police

ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates - Wednesday, March 9th 2016 [ME NewsWire]

The MENA Regional Office recently organized a workshop at the Dubai Police Officers Club to introduce the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP), its objectives, its role in improving police work, and the services it offers to members.

The workshop was attended by HE Lt. General Dhahi Khalfan Tamim, Deputy Chairman of the Dubai Police and General Security; Major General Khalifa Hareb Al Khaiaili, Acting Assistant Undersecretary of the Ministry of Interior for Naturalization, Residency and Ports Affairs; Major General Mohammed Al Awadhi Al Menhali, Assistant Undersecretary of Resources and Support Services; police commanders in chief across the UAE; and the leaders of the police sectors within the Ministry of Interior (MoI).

In his address on the occasion, Major General Dr. Abdul Quddous Abdul Razzaq Al Obaidly, Assistant Director General of Total Quality at Dubai Police and President of the IACP MENA Regional Office, said, “The association was established in 1893 and it aims to exchange information, expertise, and experiences among the various police departments in the world. This is to achieve security, fight crime and improve the professionalism of policing duties.”   

Moreover, he noted that the association currently has (8) global and regional offices in Canada, Brazil, India, the United Kingdom, Rwanda, Barbados, and the United Arab Emirates.

For his part, Lt. Colonel Dr. Ali Bin Daen Al Ghafli, Head of the Organizational Excellence Department and Vice President of the office, talked about the services provided by the association to its 25,000 members from over 100 countries across the globe. The association provides the necessary assistance for its members to upgrade the level of effectiveness and efficiency of policing responsibility, and adhere to standards of professional policing required in the field of security work.

He also highlighted the advantages offered by the association, such as access to all policies related to the police sector and IACP publications, including research reports on contemporary issues in this area. Other benefits include communication with a large number of specialists and professionals involved in implementing and applying the law from various countries around the world, in order to exchange information and experiences in the police area. Other advantages include benefiting from the educational and police training programs provided by the association, which aim to enhance the capacities of police staff members of various levels, and participating in the annual IACP conference, where a police exhibition has been organized with the participation of more than 650 companies from all over the world.

Lt. Colonel Al Ghafli also addressed areas of cooperation between the MoI and IACP, as the UAE has been selected to be the headquarters of the MENA Regional Office.
