Religious Lectures

The Public Relations Department at the MoI, in cooperation with the Ministry of Presidential Affairs and  the General Authority of Islamic Affairs and Endowments, organized a religious lecture entitled “Using Time Well During Ramadan.” The lecture was delivered in the auditorium at the Ministry’s headquarters by Prof. Dr. Mohammed Hussein Abdul Aziz, Dean of the Arabic Language Faculty at Al Azhar University, in Egypt.

Sheikh Awad Ismail, Professor at Al Azhar University in Egypt, also delivered a lecture for inmates of the Punitive and Correctional Establishments at Abu Dhabi Police, through which he explained and defined the concept of repentance in Islam being a blessing from God given to every Muslim.

Prof. Dr. Mohammed Hussein Abdul Aziz stressed the importance of using time well during the Holy Month of Ramadan, welcoming it with obedience and repentance, and considering Ramadan as a divine granting and great grace from the Almighty Allah. “This is the season of worship and multiplying good deeds and we should therefore seize the opportunity during its days and nights, as they may not come back,” he said.

Explaining further, he said: “The month of Ramadan is an opportunity for every Muslim and a stepping stone to promoting good deeds, due to the spirituality of the Holy Month.” He also pointed out that Muslims should use the Holy Month of Ramadan for the pure repentance and fasting that comes from the belief, anticipation and eagerness to perform the night prayer, especially staying up for the Laylat al-Qadr (Night of Power) to worship, being generous by charitable contribution and donating money, providing Iftar meals, as well as reading the Book of Allah consciously and with reverence.

The lecture was attended by Colonel Obeid Mohamed Al Zaabi, Acting Head of the Public Relations Department at the Ministry and a number of officers, non-commissioned officers, constables and female staff members from various departments at the MoI.

During a lecture at the Punitive and Correctional Institutions, Sheikh Awad Ismail tackled and explained the pillars of repentance, the major sins and how to perform repentance prayers in good faith.

The lecturer also highlighted the verses that urge people to repent and seek forgiveness, and the importance of coming back from wrongdoing by pure repentance. He also explained that "no one is infallible," that repentance is obligatory for every Muslim, as well as how to fully use the Holy Month, which is a great opportunity for repentance.

The lecture was attended by Captain Sheikh Mattar Al Bloushi, the Inmates Affairs Branch Manager, and First Lieutenant Mohammed Abdullah Al Thani, Reform and Rehabilitation Branch Manager at the Al Wathba Police Station.

The Punitive and Correctional Establishments Department also presented a commemorative gift made by the inmates to the Sheikh in recognition and appreciation of his valuable lecture and precious advice.
