MoI’s Higher Committee for Child Protection Discusses Initiatives for the New Academic Year

ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates - Saturday, September 5th 2015 [ME NewsWire]

The Higher Committee for Child Protection at the Ministry of Interior recently held a meeting chaired by Major General Dr. Nasser Lakhrebani Al Nuaimi, Secretary General of the Office of HH Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior and Chairman of the Higher Committee for Child Protection at the Ministry of Interior. During the meeting, which was convened in cooperation with partners from educational and community authorities, the Committee discussed the initiatives and proposals to be implemented during the new academic year.

The attendees stressed the importance of following-up on the latest developments and elaborating policies to protect children against risks, as well as enhancing communication and partnerships between the Higher Committee and the various community organizations.

Major General Al Nuaimi emphasized that the UAE is one of the leading countries in providing protection and security to children, as they are the hope of the future. Additionally, he highlighted the many procedures adopted by the Higher Committee for Child Protection at the Ministry of Interior through collaboration and partnerships with the various concerned institutions across the country, out of the firm belief that “protecting our children is a shared responsibility between all stakeholders,” he said.

On the same note, Major General Al Nuaimi urged the Ministry of Interior's Child Protection Centre to implement initiatives that serve children’s interests by focusing on preventive education, to acquaint children with the means to protect themselves against risks, in collaboration with partners. “This would achieve the aspirations and objectives for security in the educational systems,” he said. Moreover, the Chairman of the Higher Committee expressed his heartfelt wishes to the students on the occasion of the new school year, urging everyone to continue efforts to develop the endeavors aimed to protect and educate students..

The meeting was attended by Brigadier Najim Abdullah Al Hosani, Head of the Social Support Centers Department at Abu Dhabi Police, Deputy Chairman of the Higher Committee for Child Protection; Brigadier Dr. Mohammed Abdullah Al Murr, Director of the Dubai Police Human Rights Department; Colonel Dr. Jassem Khalil Mirza, Director of Security Awareness at Dubai Police, Chairman of the Subcommittee for Outreach, Media and Research at the Higher Committee for Child Protection; and Advisor Mohammed Ahmed Al Hammadi, Chairman of the Subcommittee for Criteria and  Legislative Requirements at the Higher Committee for Child Protection.

For his part, Major Dr. Mohammed Khalifa Al Ali, Director of the Ministry of Interior’s Child Protection Centre, Member and Rapporteur of the Higher Committee for Child Protection, underlined that the strategic partnership with the public and private civil society institutions, and their unrelenting cooperation and support of the Ministry of the Interior’s Child Protection Center, aim at educating the largest number of  children on the means of protection and prevention, such as safety at homes, on roads and on the Internet.

Major Al Ali called for concerted efforts amongst all entities with the aim of establishing sustainable communication and collaboration, so as to achieve the coveted goal and raise the awareness of children about the different potential dangers they may face, especially those that undermine their safety. In conclusion, the Director of the Ministry of Interior’s Child Protection Centre stressed the importance of joint action and cooperation with the Centre to achieve its mission, which is to provide security and safety for children in the UAE; and promote action in all areas of awareness in order to protect children from risks.
