Richard Boyatzis to Present at Hay Group International Conference in Shanghai on 28 November
"Resonant leadership” will be the theme

SHANGHAI - Saturday, November 16th 2013 [ME NewsWire]

(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Great leaders move us. Although they talk of strategy and competition, great leaders establish a relationship with others called "resonance” and bring out the best in their people. They use their behaviour as a path to resonant leadership through mindfulness, hope and compassion.

Based on decades of research into emotional intelligence competencies and longitudinal studies in their development, Distinguished University Professor and author Dr. Richard Boyatzis will deliver a plenary session speech at the Hay Group International Conference in Shanghai on 27 and 28 November to discuss resonant leadership. Dr. Boyatzis will lead the audience through examples of what resonance looks and feels like, and share inspiring stories and energising exercises to show how leaders, managers and executives can create and sustain "resonance” in their relationships and their teams and build resilient, adaptive organisations for sustainable success.

Resonant leaders are effective leaders.

When people work with effective leaders – leaders who bring out the best in them, who motivate and invoke them to be their best and produce the most, innovate the most, learn the most – those are leaders who have established what is called a resonant relationship because relationships tend to be characterized by an a sense of purpose which is often characterized with an emotional tone of hope.

Dr. Boyatzis will also explore the physiological dimensions of leadership and show how leaders who work at coaching and mentoring others - with compassion - actually stimulate the parasympathetic nervous system of workers and how that has a positive health benefit to the worker and the leader. In other words, creating more stress in the workplace is not the answer.

"Most people misunderstand the impact of stress,” says Boyatzis. "They think acute stressors are these moments of panic or where you’re ready to pull your hair out are the dangerous ones. That’s not true. The most dangerous aspect of stress is the daily dosage, over dosage of annoying stress: your cell phone drops a call, your computer doesn’t boot up. That’s the kind of stress that when you’re in a position of responsibility is too much. The load that we’re under is not one that our bodies were built for.”
