Saaed Honors Mothers for Contributions to Traffic Safety

ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates - Saturday, March 21st 2015 [ME NewsWire]

The Saeed Society to Reduce Traffic Accidents hosted a ceremony to honor mothers at Mushrif Mall in Abu Dhabi. The event marks the conclusion of the traffic safety awareness exhibition for families and children, which was organized in collaboration with the Traffic and Patrols Directorate at Abu Dhabi Police, in line with the 31st GCC Unified Traffic Week that was held under the slogan “Your Choice Determines Your Destiny.”

The honoring ceremony coincides with Mother’s Day, which is observed on March 21st in most countries, and was attended by a wide number of schools.. The event included an open stage, inaugurated by Colonel Saif Al Shamesi, Chief of Cultural and Social Activity Section at the Clubs and Sports Activities Department at Abu Dhabi Police. It also featured diverse competitions and distribution of presents, as well as testimonials from members of the audience, by which they expressed their utmost respect for mothers’ valuable contributions to traffic safety, as well as their essential role in providing the necessary care and attention to their children injured in traffic accidents or who lost their fathers in such accidents.

Colonel Jamal Salem Al Ameri, Executive Director of the Saaed Society to Reduce Traffic Accidents, said that the event aims at recognizing the outstanding role of mothers in the nurturing and teaching of the next generation; instilling values in their children and imparting a sense of responsibility; and coping with the incalculable loss of their children or husbands as a result of road accidents.

Adding further, Colonel Al Ameri noted that mothers are key partners in the efforts to inculcate traffic safety awareness in children. “Teaching children the basic road safety rules begins at home, and on board of the vehicle itself. Mothers’ role is also instrumental in influencing drivers’ behavior (their husband or brother, etc…), with a good thought and well wishes,” he continued.

Colonel Al Ameri also emphasized that mothers play an essential role in instilling traffic awareness in their children, by closely monitoring their behavior, preventing them from playing in dangerous locations, teaching them the proper ways to cross the road and the need to observe the law and avoid bad behavior through guidance and advice.

Colonel Jamal Salem Al Ameri praised the active and wide scale participation of women in the various social activities and in highlighting the importance of traffic safety as a fundamental requirement for saving lives. He also called upon women to pursue their leading role in enhancing traffic safety awareness, spreading traffic safety concepts through lectures, brochures, and dialogue, which would ultimately improve traffic safety in the various sectors.

Towards the end of the event, Colonel Jamal Salem Al Ameri commended the efforts of the female staff members at the Public Relations Section at the Traffic and Patrols Directorate, Abu Dhabi Police and their valuable collaboration with their male counterparts in fostering traffic safety. He also praised their efforts in organizing the event. He said: “We are looking forward for further active participation from women in traffic safety awareness, because safety in traffic is essential to our efforts to stop needless deaths and injuries; and educated women are influential to help promote social and health awareness in all aspects of life.”
