Saif bin Zayed Calls for Providing Medical Tests for Early Detection of Chronic Diseases for MoI Staff Members

ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates - Tuesday, October 6th 2015 [ME NewsWire]

Lt. General HH Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, called for implementing an awareness initiative to acquaint MoI staff members and their families with the importance of early detection of chronic diseases and cancer, . This initiative, which is carried out in coordination with the Federal Demographic Structure Council, aims to preserve staff members’  health and safety, and increase their awareness of the initial risk factors of such diseases.

His Highness Sheikh Saif reviewed the recommendations issued by the “Comprehensive Medical Conference”, which was organized by the Medical Services Department at Abu Dhabi Police. The conference witnessed participation of an elite group of international specialists from inside and outside the UAE, who discussed a number of medical topics aimed at enhancing prevention and raising awareness on internal diseases, notably cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, blood pressure, obesity, cancer, gynecology, and dermatology.    

Major General Khalil Dawood Badran, Director General of Finance and Services at the Abu Dhabi Police, confirmed the unlimited and unrelenting support to launch this initiative; in order to enhance medical care and treatment for the MoI staff members and their families.

For his part, Colonel Jassim Al Tunaiji, Head of Medical Services Department of Abu Dhabi Police, indicated that the initiative includes awareness advice on the various diseases, the importance of early detection through regular medical checkups for MoI staff members and their families. He also stressed the importance of preventive tests and screenings to detect diseases in their earliest stages; determine the most appropriate an effective treatment to prevent any complications. “Improving and providing medical care for staff members and their families is one of the key priorities for the police leadership, which is keen to apply the best advanced standards of medical and healthcare,” he said.

For her part, Lt. Colonel Dr. Najla Asaad Taher, Head of the Initiative of Early Detection of Chronic Diseases and Cancer, said:” This initiative has been launched in close coordination and cooperation with the Health Authority- Abu Dhabi, the Ministry of Health, and the coordinating committees for medical services at the countrywide level for the benefit of the MoI staff members, their families, and the largest segment of society. The Medical Services Department offers a package of therapeutic services for MoI staff members and their families; in line with the strategy of the MoI in providing excellent medical care for its staff members, with a view to strengthening the country’s efforts in the medical sector, in pursuance of its commitment to implement medical education and improve the quality of health services”.

“The Medical Services Department has introduced the best equipment and devices to allow doctors to diagnose the different health problems and prescribe the proper treatment, in addition to boosting the competency of its medical staff, by enrolling them in programs, training courses and international and local medical conferences,” she continued.

Moreover, she noted that the medical tests include:  Body Mass Index (BMI) which is a key indicator of body fatness to measure obesity and predict cardiovascular risk factors; measuring the levels of glucose in the blood; blood pressure; cholesterol levels; and pulmonary function testing. It also includes medical examinations necessary for the early detection of breast cancer – lung cancer - cervical cancer and colorectal cancer; and giving prevention vaccines.
