Under the patronage of Lt. General HH Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, the 6th edition of the International Cyber Crimes Conference will start on the 16th of March. This conference is organized by the Ministry of Interior (MoI) and Institute of Training and Judicial Studies, in collaboration and coordination with the Ministry of Justice, the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) and the National Electronic Security Authority (NESA). The conference will be held at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC) in conjunction with the International Exhibition for National Security and Resilience (ISNR Abu Dhabi 2016).
Members of judicial, police and security authorities, university professors, law and information technology students, legal consultants from public and private sectors, representatives of public and private technology institutions and social institutions will participate in the conference.
Major General Dr. Ahmed Nasser Al Raisi, Deputy Chairman of the Higher Organizing Committee of the ISNR Abu Dhabi 2016, underlined that the organization of the International Cyber Crimes Conference embodies the eagerness of the MoI to consolidate the preventive aspect in the fight against crime and to strengthen the security, stability and public safety of UAE citizens and residents. “It also falls in line with the United Arab Emirates (UAE) Vision 2021 and the Abu Dhabi Government’s Vision 2030 that aim to implement E-government concepts to make the Abu Dhabi government one of the five best E-governments in the world,” he said.
Major General Al Raisi added that the MoI has endeavored to promote and strengthen awareness in the UAE and its business community about the challenges arising from internet threats. “The ministry also identified the best effective means to counter those threats so as to curb their impact and risks,” he said. Furthermore, he indicated that the International Cyber Crimes Conference (IC3 Conference) aims to carry out that responsibility by providing a platform to discuss and debate problems, share information and find solutions to the challenges facing smart cities.
For his part, Counselor Dr. Mohammed Mahmoud Al Kamali, Director-General of the Institute of Judicial Training and Studies, noted that the participation of a group of experts and specialists in the conference will contribute to the development and promotion of strategic partnerships to confront the growing challenges of this type of crime. “It will also enrich communication and dialogue between legislators, police officers, and specialized technicians to combat information technology crimes.
On the same note, Lt. Colonel Faisal Mohammed Al Shimmari, Executive Director of the MoI’s Smart Government Program and chairman of the conference’s organizing committee, emphasized that the conference aims to address legal, security and technical aspects of cyber crimes. “It will also offer the opportunity to exchange scientific and technological expertise and knowledge related to information security, to raise cyber awareness, and to spread cyber security education in many fields, notably critical installations and geographic information systems,” explained Al Shimmari. Moreover, he indicated that the conference will allow representatives from public and private sectors to review the best experiences in combating cyber crimes.
He said that the conference will discuss a number of topics related to fighting cyber crimes through several working papers such as “Security in the Age of the Internet of Things (IoT).” There will be a discussion panel on the “National Agenda for Information Security in the UAE,” “Smart City Security,” “Towards Online Safety for Children,” “Privacy in the Age of Smart Transformation and Smart Cities,” “Smart Citizen Awareness, Culture, The Digital Divide – Challenges & Opportunities,” and “Security of Online Financial Services, Necessity or Privilege?”
Moreover, Al Shimmari urged jurists, researchers and university students from fields related to the conference subject to attend and actively participate in the conference’s events and meetings on Wednesday, March 16 to take advantage of the specialized expertise in this field.
It should be noted that the upcoming conference will accompany “Infosecurity Middle East,” which is a part of “Infosecurity Europe.” “Infosecurity Europe” is rated as Europe’s number one information security exhibition and conference and has been taking place for 20 years.
ISNR is the third largest international exhibition and conference on national defense in the world. It was established under the guidance and direction of the UAE's MoI as a dedicated platform for countries from around the world to view and source the world's latest homeland security solutions.
