(BUSINESS WIRE)-- The design of the Endowment for Clean Oceans (ECO) $1 million contest has been finalized, and we will be making a series of announcements about who will be selected as the judges for our contests to find a sustainable, globally-deployable technology to remove micro and macro plastics from the world’s oceans. The contest will accept submissions from around the world.

Given the interest from potential contestants, ECO is making the following changes to the $1 million contest for technology or a plan to remove micro and macro pieces of plastic from the ocean.

There will be three submission categories:

   • Corporations & Universities
   • “Garage” Inventors
   • Elementary / Secondary Students

(BUSINESS WIRE)-- The Endowment for Clean Oceans (ECO) announced that Skunkworks Surfing Co. Co-Founders CEO Chris and Ricky Martin have been selected and they have accepted to be ECO judges. Chris will serve on the Science and Tech Committee, and Ricky on the Entrepreneur Committee. An entrepreneur’s survival depends on their ability to execute their technical vision. “They have the sort of innovative entrepreneur and plastic materials technical expertise we are looking for to be ECO judges,” said Daniel Perrin, Founder and CEO of ECO.

The role of the Entrepreneur Committee is to judge each entry to ECO’s two contests for scalability and executability. The Scientific and Technical Committee evaluate each entry from that perspective.

Uses "nanoe X" to dissolve and eliminate odors(*1)

(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Panasonic Corporation will begin selling a shoe deodorizer, the MS-DS100, equipped with "nanoe X" that generates 10 times(*2) more hydroxyl (OH) radicals than "nanoe" to remove unpleasant shoe odors in a simple way, on September 20, 2018 (in Japan only).

One of the common causes of unpleasant shoe odors is isovaleric acid, an odorous substance produced by foot sweat and bacteria. According to a survey(*3) Panasonic conducted with sneaker wearers, about 62% of those surveyed take some measures to remove shoe odors, but about half of them are not satisfied with the deodorizing methods they use.
