ADP Traffic Intensifies Traffic Control in Residential Neighborhoods in Al Ain

In order to reduce driving without a license offences and disturbance

ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates - Wednesday, April 6th 2016 [ME NewsWire]

The Traffic and Patrols Directorate at Abu Dhabi Police spares no effort to take action against objectionable behaviors, such as allowing young people under 18 to drive in Al Ain city and to reduce the disturbing noise caused by illegally modified vehicles to increase their speed and amplify their sound, all of which spread chaos and cause nuisance to residents, especially during night hours.

Colonel Ahmed Abdullah Al Shehhi, Acting Director of Highway Traffic Department at the Traffic and Patrols Directorate at Abu Dhabi Police, stressed the need for families to support the efforts exerted to maintain their children’s safety, by forbidding their children from driving vehicles without a license; “a behavior that may put the driver’s life at risk,” he said.

“Some parents allow their ‘young adolescents’ to drive vehicles, out of or into the residence’s garage or in wilderness areas, ‘inside ranches and farms’ and on internal roads through residential areas, regardless of the associated dangers”, he continued. He also highlighted the need to protect children from traffic accidents.

Colonel Al Shehhi emphasized that the Abu Dhabi Police will pursue their awareness campaigns and prevention measures, and called upon parents to contribute to these campaigns and efforts aimed at reducing traffic accidents and maintaining everyone’s safety. He also pointed out that the intensive measures include monitoring vehicles that cause disturbance, especially those illegally modified vehicles and motorcycles to increase their speeds and amplify their sound.

For his part, Lt. Colonel Salah Al Hemairi, Head of the Al Ain Highways Section, said: “Traffic control will be intensified in Al Yahar and Mazyad areas by the civil patrols affiliated to the Traffic Investigation Section and traffic patrols, to detect any traffic violations or people performing dangerous show-off stunts with vehicles and motorcycles.” He stressed that the police will show no leniency in enforcing penalties against offenders who violate the laws related to this issue, in order to maintain the safety of road users.

He also explained that article no. 51 of the Traffic Law states the following: a penalty of imprisonment not exceeding 3 month and a fine not more than Dh5,000 or one of these penalties, shall be applied to those who drive on the road without a driver’s license or having a license that do not entitle them to drive this type of vehicle.”

Adding further, he said: “The law prohibits anyone from driving any motor vehicle on the road, unless holding a valid license, issued by the licensing authority that gives him the right to drive that type of vehicle. Any person in charge of a motor vehicle shall not allow someone who doesn’t hold a valid license to drive the vehicle”.

He also warned young drivers against equipping their vehicles with additions, which are meant to increase their sound or speed. He said that violators will face a Dh500 fine for driving a noisy vehicle, in addition their car being impounded for one month.  He stressed that the police will show no leniency in enforcing traffic laws.

Concluding, he explained that the Federal Law No. 21 of 1995 concerning traffic and the relevant amendments prohibits the use of car horns near hospitals, schools, places of worship and residential areas from 10pm until sunrise, and said: “Such behavior causes disturbance and distraction to students, and disturbs patients, when used near hospitals.”
