Major General Dr. Nasser Lakhrebani Al Nuaimi, Chairman of the Emirates Animal Welfare Society, encouraged community members to engage in volunteer work that fosters positive behaviors towards animals. This recommendation stems from the belief in the positive environmental and biological role of animals, in addition to their vital importance for human survival, and maintaining ecological balance.
The Emirates Animal Welfare Society had taken part in the campaign titled ‘Protect Me, I shall Protect You’at the Emirates Park Zoo in Al Bahia, Abu Dhabi. The campaign was organized in conjunction with World Rabies Day, and aims to spread awareness on animal care and welfare, maintaining animals’ hygiene, the importance of pet vaccinations on time, and regular veterinary checkups.
In his speech on the occasion, Brigadier Mohammed Hamid bin Dalmouj Al Dhaheri, Emirates Animal Welfare Society Representative, asserted the Society’s commitment to take part in all activities that aim to spreading awareness about animal welfare. He also encouraged the public to treat animals humanely, and stressed the need to educate people about the vital environmental role of animals and how it affects human life.
The campaign was organized by the Ministry of Environment and Water and sponsored by the Emirates Park Zoo with the participation of the Emirates Animal Welfare Society, the Security Inspection Department (K9), and the Emirates Dog Breeders Society. The campaign included a number of activities and events, including free vaccination against rabies for cats and dogs at the Emirates Park Zoo, in collaboration with a number of authorities, governmental entities, and public welfare associations.
As a part of the campaign, special brochures related to animal care and welfare were distributed, as well as membership applications for those wishing to join EAW. Awareness documentaries were also presented during the campaign, in addition to a theater play titled “Protect Me, I shall Protect You”, police dogs shows, rabies-related lectures, awareness lectures about importance of vaccination and rabies prevention, among others.
