Huawei: Fashion world set to be revolutionised by technology

To mark the launch of its new smartwatch, Huawei and Fashion Futurologist Sabine Seymour reveal how technology is set to revolutionise our wardrobes

LONDON - Tuesday, September 8th 2015 [ME NewsWire]

(BUSINESS WIRE)-- To celebrate the launch of its new smartwatch, Huawei Consumer Business Group (BG) has teamed up with eminent Fashion Futurologist and Professor of Fashion and Technology, Dr. Sabine Seymour, to reveal how the integration of technology will transform our wardrobe in the coming decades.

Our future wardrobe

According to Dr. Seymour, the transformation in garments will start with our underwear, which will have in-built sensors to track personal data, such as heart rate and body temperature.

The changes won’t end there, with personalisation in every aspect of our wardrobes. In years to come, we will be able to change the pattern, colour and even the shape and style of our garments.

The next development for wearables is going to see technology integrated seamlessly into clothing, Dr. Seymour predicts. Her vision of the future of fashion with technology aligns perfectly with Huawei’s point of view on wearables. The Huawei watch embodies this vision, combining classic design with premium craftsmanship and smart technology.

Intuitive garments

In the future, we may find that there is much more space in our wardrobes, as garments will be able to alter in form, extending and contracting in length, and changing shape and design as required. Therefore, there may only be a need for one dress or shirt and the wearer will be able to download the latest designs.

Getting hot on public transport or carrying a spare sweater in case of colder weather could also become a thing of the past, as garments will be able to adjust to your body temperature.

With the rise of 3D printing techniques and on-demand manufacturing, we will see the introduction of the digital cobbler, who can create shoes that fit your feet perfectly, and for the rest of your life.

A new functional aesthetic

Garments will become gesture and touch-sensitive, just like phones, tablets or gaming systems are today, but with a sense of style and a true design aesthetic. By connecting your garments to other elements of your life, we will see a move from networked devices to networked people and networked spaces. In future, it will be possible for smart garments to connect to your car, which will adjust your seat according to personal preferences.

The future of fashion is sustainable

A major barrier to the networked self is the current limitation of battery life. Using alternative energy sources, such as capturing the kinetic energy of a person as they walk, we will be able to create a new form of sustainable fashion.

The Huawei Watch - A classic design aesthetic, built with smart technology

The launch event also saw Huawei Watch designer Benjamin Norton introducing the inspiration and classic design aesthetic of the watch. Benjamin Norton is the Wearable Design Expert at Huawei Consumer Business Group (BG) and is responsible for the final design of the Huawei watch.

Crafted using sophisticated materials, the watch features a fully circular 1.4-inch touch-sensitive AMOLED display, coated in scratch-proof sapphire crystal (the favoured choice amongst Swiss watch manufacturers) and a cold-forged stainless steel frame. A premium watch, its design truly embodies the space where fashion meets technology.

The Huawei Watch measures 42mm in diameter, which is the traditional dimension for wristwatches. There is a range of gold, silver and black frames and a variety of different watch face designs to choose from, across a range of classic, luxury, business, feminine, modern and simple aesthetics.

The choice of 22mm straps includes stainless steel mesh, stainless steel links, rose gold, and black-plated stainless steel links, and brown and black leather.

Benjamin Norton, Wearable Design Expert at the Huawei Consumer BG, said: “Today, consumers are rarely content with just staying connected; they are looking for a premium watch with a classic design, which is also technologically innovative. At Huawei, we are always looking forward, working ahead to the latest in not only technology, but design.

“When designing this watch, we were keen to create a wearable with smart technology that doesn’t compromise personal style. With the Huawei watch, we combine the best in technology and innovation with premium materials and a classic, timeless look and feel to suit stylish, tech-savvy consumers. With smart technology and a classic design, the Huawei watch truly brings together the worlds of fashion and technology.”
