HH: We highly praise our Citizens’ courage and noble humanitarian spirit
Lt. General HH Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior offered on Friday afternoon his profound condolences to the bereaved Salem family in the Ozon area, on the sad demise of their son Ahmed who drowned in a bid to rescue a number of Asian children swimming off Ras Al Khaimah.
His Highness lauded the deceased’s courage and bravery; "a distinguished feature of all Emirati society,” he said. He emphasized that the noble humanitarian spirit and sense of duty prompted the quick-thinking young man to intervene immediately, in a bid to save the distressed children, only to lose his life in the process.
His Highness noted that the young Emirati is a martyr of duty and that his bravery will be rewarded; praying to Allah Almighty to bestow his mercy and eternal peace on the deceased, and grant his family patience and solace to bear the loss.
He added: "I am fully confident that young Ahmed’s demise will not pass unnoticed nor will it be in vain. It reflects a bright civilized image of our young Nationals’ high moral values inherited from the past generations.”
For his part, Emirati citizen Salem Mohammed, the deceased’s brother, expressed his appreciation for His Highness’s visit, which grants solace to the bereaved hearts. He also thanked him for catering to the family’s needs and assuming full expenses. The deceased was swimming in the evening along with three of his companions behind the Masoudi Institute, when they heard distress screams from six Filipino children and their helpless father battling the rising waves. The young Emirati and his friends rushed to their rescue and managed to save two children, by the time the police rescue, ambulance and coast guards arrived and saved the others; one of them alas, did not survive.
His Highness was accompanied by Brigadier Mohammed Al Noubi, Deputy Commander- in-chief of Ras Al Khaimah Police; Brigadier Ghanem Ahmed, Director of the Police Operations Room at Ras Al Khaimah Police; and Colonel Saud Al Saadi, Director of the Secretariat of the Office of His Highness the Minister of Interior.
